Mid-Term Presentation

The idea for the project is to see the change between the environment from the top of the staircase to the bottom.  Because they are completely different environments.   It is really interesting to see the differences in the environments that a staircase can make.

Motion

These photos are all taken in my apartment.  They show different types of motions from blurs to freezing action.  I had a lot of fun playing around with motion and figuring out what looks good as a blur or stop action.

Koyaanisqati

Koyaanisqati is a film that is made up of different shots from all over the United States.  There is a lot of shots from both nature and cities.  The film made me see what mankind has done to nature.  In the beginning of the film you get to see beautiful mountains and clouds.  There is also some very nice shots of ocean waves and a waterfall.  It is showing the beauty of nature.  Then it starts to put in images of mankind objects like wires and pipes that run across the landscape of western United States.  Then you start to see like a factory that was built in the middle of nowhere and you get to see how man has been interrupting nature.  There was also a shot of a plant and in the background you see a bomb go off.  Soon the images in the film turned into cityscapes and highways.  But there is still an element of nature like seeing a clouds reflection in a skyscraper.  Then you see images of some of the horrible things that man has done to the earth like blowing up things and just piles of trash.  But after those shots you get to see some more clubs over a city and people walking about on the streets.  By then you start to see some night shots of the skyscrapers and there is one beautiful shot of a skyscraper and behind it you see the moon moving across the night sky.  Soon we are taken inside of factories where they are building things like cars, computers and even hot dogs.  Things start to move faster and faster like the cars and people.  Then it slows down and you get different shots of people moving at a normal pace along the sidewalks.  One of the finally images is of a piece of debris falling from the sky and its on fire.  Then the film ends with the same image that it started with which is of a cave drawing.

I feel like this film is about the influence that mankind has had on this planet and how technology is only going to make it worst.  You see in the beginning of the film the beauty of western United States and how that is still mostly untouched of man then it moves into cities and the building and people.  You get to see how people want to move faster and they don't ever slow down and look around.

I totally agree with the message of the film.  Everything is getting built up and taken over by mankind and there is very little of nature left untouched.  Also, technology is moving so fast that you need to keep up or you will be left behind.  Everyone wants things to go faster like cars and computers.  They wants things to get done faster or to go someplace faster.  But they never even see the beauty of their environment even if they do live in a city it can still be beautiful but they don't have the time to slow down.

These photos take you through nature and you will start to see how mankind has been pushing their way into nature until you get cities and very little nature is left behind.
